Peppercorn trees are environmental weeds that compete with native plants.
What does it look like?
Peppercorn tree Schinus molle var. areira grows up to 10 m tall. It has drooping branches.
The leaves are made up of 17 - 35 leaflets. Each of the leaflets is up to 5 cm long and 1 cm wide. They are lance shaped with a pointed tip.
Flowers are small and white with 5 petals and grow in drooping clusters.
The fruit is pinkish to red and up to 6 mm in diameter.
How does it spread?
The seeds are spread by birds and other animals that eat the fruit.
